No one will really go out of their way to praise it but you could definitely do worse. I'm planning on rewatching it but I'm not sure if i should go with the manga instead. I'm an anime only guy but I do read several manga. I would like to go with the medium that will give me the better experience of the show.

Watch the anime only. The manga-only arcs are a mess. The anime has a trove of filler on top of the filler in the manga which I believe is the absolute worst thing considering what it ends up becoming later. If gag comedy was your thing either is fine.
